Workshop Description

The QCB Collaboratory presents the ‘Careers in Computational Biology’ workshop. Moderated by our Director, Dr. Matteo Pellegrini, this workshop features Collaboratory alumni who are now working professionally in both academia and industry.  Our goal is to provide participants insights into the different job opportunities that are available in Computational Biology. Participants will be able to take part in a Q&A session, as well breakout sessions focused either on academic and industry jobs.

The Collaboratory, a central component of the Institute for Quantitative & Computational Biosciences (QCB), brings together experimental and computational biologists for collaboration and skill development. By teaching workshops and providing expert consulting, Collaboratory fellows have enabled hundreds of experimentalists that include contemporary genomic technologies in their research, and make novel discoveries.

Technical Requirements

Dr. Matteo Pellegrini is a biophysicist who has served on the UCLA Life Sciences Division faculty since he joined the Department of Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology in 2005. Dr. Pellegrini earned his B.A. in Physics at Columbia University and his Ph.D. in Physics at Stanford. He was a postdoctoral fellow at UCLA, where he worked on computational biology. Following his postdoctoral studies Dr. Pellegrini co-founded a start-up company and later worked for the pharmaceutical company Merck before returning to UCLA. His laboratory research centers on the development of novel computational approaches to reverse engineer biomolecular networks. Professor Pellegrini is also a member of the California NanoSystems Institute (CNSI). Email: + Website:
