UCLA Institute for Quantitative and Computational Biosciences (QCBio) "Age: Just a Number?" A conversation with UCLA faculty members Matteo Pellegrini Director, QCBio Collaboratory Professor, Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology Jing Huang Professor, Molecular and Medical Pharmacology David Geffen School of Medicine Thomas A. Rando Director, Broad Stem Cell Research Center Professor, Neurology, David Geffen School of Medicine Professor, Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology with introductory remarks and moderated Q&A by Alexander Hoffmann Director, Institute for Quantitative and Computational Biosciences Thomas M. Asher Professor of Microbiology Microbiology, Immunology and Molecular Genetics A longstanding and fundamental question is whether the aging process marches forward with time, or whether it can be stopped or even reversed. Three UCLA faculty who are leaders in different branches of biology are addressing this question through innovative approaches, resulting in exciting discoveries such as the existence of an “epigenetic aging clock” and “longevity metabolites” — as well as the development of interventions that may have the potential to dramatically extend human healthspans and lifespans.
